Blueberry Pineapple Protein Smoothie (High-Protein, No Added Sugar)

About This Recipe
I made this when I wanted something that felt more like dessert than breakfast — and honestly it delivered on both. Two layers, two completely different flavors: the bottom is creamy tropical vanilla from the banana and pineapple, and the blueberry layer on top is tart and intense in a way that makes every spoonful interesting. It looks like something from a smoothie bar and takes about five minutes. The kind of thing you make once and then keep coming back to all summer.

Why These Ingredients
Frozen banana — the base of the first layer. Frozen banana blends into something thick and creamy that holds its shape in the glass. Fresh banana won’t give you the same texture — it stays too liquid.
Frozen pineapple — adds natural tropical sweetness and keeps the first layer cold and thick. The acidity balances the sweetness of the banana perfectly.
Vanilla soy milk — just enough liquid to help the blender work without making the mixture too thin. Vanilla flavor adds depth without any extra sweetener. Any milk works but vanilla soy gives the best flavor here.
Protein powder — blends seamlessly into the first layer without changing the texture. Vanilla flavor works best here.
Blueberries — blended with yogurt they create that deep purple layer with an intense berry flavor. Frozen blueberries work just as well as fresh and often have more flavor.
Greek yogurt — adds creaminess to the blueberry layer and extra protein. It also thickens the mixture so the two layers stay separate in the glass.

💡Layers mixing together? The key is temperature — both mixtures need to be very cold before layering. If the first layer feels too soft, pop the glass in the freezer for 5 minutes before adding the blueberry layer. Pour slowly over the back of a spoon to keep them separate.
